Small capillaries on your face, rosacea and white smudges on your skin are now possible to be treated and permanently removed.

Description of the procedure

People affected by skin changes, known as pigmented lesions, especially age-related smudges, more frequently consider these changes to be esthetic imperfections. Age-related spots are present in 50% of women and 20% of men older than the age of 50. Since those signs of aging are more and more frequently considered unpleasant, readiness to remove them becomes more pronounced. There are several different pigmented changes that primarily differ by their morphological and histological characteristics. For that reason, assessment and possible therapy of pigmented skin phenomena always have to be entrusted with a specialized doctor.

Likewise, the occurrence of rosacea, facial redness, can greatly affect the quality of life of people affected by it. Although they are chronic, which means that there is no definitive cure, there are certain steps that can be taken in order to prevent or alleviate them.

Treatments of redness and pigmented changes removal guarantee the clients minimum risk and gentle and painless treatment, with outstanding results. In Polyclinic Lege Artis, we use a yellow laser QuadroStarPRO, manufactured by the company Asclepion Laser Technologies that is nowadays a state-of-the-art technology and the best choice when dealing with the aforementioned skin problems. Owing to its high energy at the moment of highest concentration of hemoglobin, it is possible to treat capillaries, redness and pigmentation quickly, gently and efficiently.

Candidates

If you are on a daily basis troubled by pigmented skin changes, small cracked capillaries around the nose and on the cheeks, and even on the rest of the body, you are a good candidate for laser removal using a yellow laser. Prior to every treatment, you will be examined to see if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

Preparation

You should, prior to treatment, thoroughly clean and dry your skin, remove make-up, creams, oils or self-tanning products. The area to be treated must not be exposed to sunlight or tanning bed up to 2 weeks prior to the treatment.

Course of the procedure

Laser treatment of facial redness itself is not complicated and is done on ambulatory basis without local anesthesia. The distal part of the laser handle is pressed against the skin, and after the activation of the laser with a foot switch, the light impulse, that is felt as a mild sting, is let through. The area is then treated with a laser handle, so that it looks white afterwards. When the beam penetrates the skin, it connects with the upper skin layer and melanin pigment absorbs light energy. Thermal effect of short light strikes heats the melanin and separates it from the dermis. After that, a pigmented lesion is gently removed with sterile gauze. Redness can appear after the treatment, as well as a small crust that falls off in 5-7 days. You can undergo the next treatment after 4 to 6 weeks, if necessary.
During the treatment of removal of capillaries, i.e. skin redness, light turns into heat, and a blood vessel is closed and disappears. Liquid surrounding the vessel (tissue that contains a high percentage of water) does not absorb the light, preventing damage to the surrounding skin. Vessels are immediately ‘erased’ without the occurrence of repulsive peliosis (purple smudges).

Recovery

Immediately after the treatment, the area exposed to the laser light will be red and sore. Redness will dwindle within a few minutes after the end of treatment. Most patients’ skin is completely calmed overnight and the next day they can use standard products for skin care and make-up.
Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10-15 days after the treatment, do not apply soap directly to the treated area if your skin is not calmed, and do not rub the face during the first few days after the treatment.

Precautions and limitations

Common side-effects are redness and swelling that last no longer than 24-48 hours. Less frequent side-effects are changes in pigmentation, skin bulging and small scabs. The above is a very rare and usually lasts a few days. After the treatment, it is necessary to avoid the sun for least 10-15 days and use sunscreens with SPF 50+.
